Finally getting back into this. It’s been too long since my last post on the site, but a lot has been going on with family and work.
The smoke is clearing on the holidays, teething babies, and a mad rush of projects at work. With this return to normalcy, I am re-committing myself to Jeffrey Zeldman’s mantra of “Blog like no one is reading”.
The goal is post more short updates more often, complete the series on Clarity, and tying up other odds and ends here and there. After that, who knows.
I’m also back to WordPress. I’ve tried a few flat-file CMSs, and they just weren’t for me. I’m too invested in WordPress to turn my back on it. Yeah, there are a lot of terrible, formulaic, WordPress sites out there, and it might not be the youngest, sexiest girl at the bar, but it gets the job done. And, in the right hands, great things can still be made with it.
Along with posting more will be the building of a pattern library for the site. I’ve been a huge fan of Brad Frost’s Pattern Lab for too long now not to get a pattern library built for myself. I’m also going to take a crack at writing the SASS/CSS in BEM of SMACCS to add another layer of future-proofing.
As you can see in the photo, I’ve carved out a corner of the basement for myself and taped up some French posters to make it feel a little more welcoming. It ain’t much, but it’s what I’ve got. At the very least, it’s a decent place to escape to and push pixels around.
